As a web design agency, we like to keep aware of important and relevant industry resources so we know the best way to help your business.
On January 23rd, @h5bp tweeted a link to HTML5 Please, a curated community-driven project aimed at providing developers with a comprehensive HTML5 feature list – including recommendations for the effective use (or complete avoidance) thereof.
In her talk “Active Web Development” at Web Directions last year, Divya Manian proposed the idea of keeping an updated HTML5 feature and support list. It was here, after the inclusion of Paul Irish and his suggestions for making a global set of recommendations, that HTML5 Please was born.

HTML5 presents its contents clearly and logically through an alphabetically sorted – albeit overly designed – list of HTML5 features along with the recommendation to “use”, “use with caution” or “avoid”.
For features that aren’t as easily sectioned, there are further recommendations to “prefix”, “polyfill” or “fallack” a given feature. The interactive search is a great addition, filtering and updating results as you type making searching through the 74 features a breeze.

HTML5 Please has some industry giants curating it, but the undeniable strength of the project lies in the community-driven nature its built upon. It has a public Github repository giving the development community a chance to contribute in any form to the project.
If you haven’t already visited (and bookmarked) the site, I urge you to do so.
Equally, if you’d like to talk through how we can make features of HTML5 work for your business in your site or app design, or just find out more, say hello on 01344 667410 or email us at hello@3seven9.com
